Citizens' Appeal Panels

Only decisions which have a direct impact on eligibility or benefit amounts under the following programs may be appealed to the Citizens Appeal Panel:

  • Alberta Works Income Support (IS), including training benefits for provincially-funded Learners. The appeal process through the Citizens' Appeal Panel does not apply to federally funded Learners (Employment Insurance Learners).
(You can appeal decisions made regarding your eligibility for benefits, termination of benefits, emergency allowance, overpayments, etc.)

  • Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH)
(You can appeal decisions made regarding your eligibility for benefits, overpayments, etc.)

  • Widows' Pension

  • Alberta Seniors Benefit

  • Special Needs Assistance for Seniors

  • Alberta Aids to Daily Living

  • Alberta Child Health Benefit

  • Alberta Adult Health Benefit
(Only decisions about financial eligibility can be appealed.)

Citizens’ Appeal Panels hear appeals on benefit decisions made under the Income and Employment Supports Act, and the Widows’ Pension Act, administered by the Minister of Employment and Immigration. They also hear appeals from benefit decisions made under the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Act, Seniors Benefit Act, Special Needs Assistance, and cost-sharing appeals from decisions made under the Alberta Aids to Daily Living and Extended Health Regulation, administered by the Minister of Seniors and Community Supports.

Citizen Appeal Panels cannot change the law.  They have to abide by the Acts and Regulations.

Some things cannot be appealed. For example, you cannot appeal to have your worker changed.

...an Administrative Review may resolve your issues, and you may not have to go to Appeal?
